Bio: Dr. Jordan Frith received his PhD in 2012 from the Communication, Rhetoric, and Digital Media program at North Carolina State University. He has an extensive interdisciplinary research agenda that focuses on various forms of emerging media, but his primary focus is on the location-aware capabilities of smartphone technology. Dr. Frith is the author of two books, and his most recent book--Smartphones as Locative Media--was published in 2015 as part of the prestigious Digital Media & Society Series. Beyond book-length works, Dr. Frith has also published 15 peer reviewed journal articles in 13 different journals and 6 book chapters in various disciplines, including technical communication, media studies, communication studies, human geography, and composition. His work has received national and international recognition, and he has appeared on NPR and given invited research talks in England, Australia, Croatia, and at universities in the United States. Finally, Dr. Frith serves as director of UNT's interdisciplinary digital studies program and is the current graduate director for the Department of Technical Communication.
