Frith Publishes Third Book, A Billion Little Pieces: RFID and Infrastructures of Identification

A Billion Little Pieces: RFID and Infrastructures of Identification, the third book by Dr. Jordan Frith, will be published as part of the prestigious MIT Press' Infrastructure series on Tuesday, March 19th. Hard copies will be available through MIT Press, Amazon, and other major retailers.

A Billion Little Pieces examines how RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) in everyday life functions as a framework for identification and communication technologies. The book also investigates the social impact of RFID technology, privacy concerns, misinformation about capabilities, and even how some evangelical Christians view RFID implants as a sign of the apocalypse.

A Billion Little Pieces is preceded by Smartphones as Locative Media in 2015 and Mobile Interfaces in Public Spaces in 2012.

Smartphones as Locative Media explores how smartphones and location-based services are changing the way we interact with the world. Similarly, Mobile Interfaces in Public Spaces (co-authored by Adriana de Souza e Silva) examines how location-aware technologies add new context to the places we visit.

Dr. Frith's other research includes virtual reality, social media, and technical communication. With regard to future research, Frith is seeking a grant from the National Science Foundation to study biohacking through RFID and the relationship between the Christian theology and RFID implants.
