Jobs devoted entirely to technical editing were more common in the past than they are today, but that doesn't mean that the skill of technical editing is any less important now than it used to be. It just means that people with different job titles (e.g., technical writer, content strategist, UX designer, and more) are expected to do the work of a technical editor.
