Scholarships

Deadline for 2022-2023 applications is February 28, 2022. Students who have been awarded a scholarship will be notified by April 15, 2022.

The Big Design Scholarship for UX Design for graduate and undergraduate students eligibility requirements:

  • You must be a full-time student with a declared major in Professional and Technical Communication in the Department of Techncial Communication; in User Experience Design or Interaction and User Experience Design in the Department of Design
  • You must remain enrolled full time during both semesters of the award period (12 credit hours for undergraduate or 9 hours for graduate students)

Neil and Rebecca Cobb Scholarship for undergraduate students eligibility requirements:

  • You must be a full-time student with a declared major in Professional and Technical Communication
  • You must remain enrolled in 12 credit hours during both semesters of the award period
  • You must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 in all TECM coursework

Technical Communication General Scholarship for graduate students eligibility requirements:

  • You must be enrolled as a full-time student in any of the degree-granting programs in the Department of Technical Communication.
  • You must be have completed a minimum of 9 hours in graduate technical communication courses at UNT
  • You must remain enrolled in 9 credit hours as a graduate student during both semesters of the award period.
  • You must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 in all TECM coursework

  • You must be enrolled as a full-time student in any of the degree-granting programs in the Department of Technical Communication

  • You must be enrolled in 9 credit hours as a graduate student or 12 credit hours as an undergraduate student during both semesters of the award period

2022 University Writing Awards (For the 2021 calendar year)

Deadline: Friday, February 25, 2022 5:00 p.m.

The University Writing Committee is seeking nominations of student writing for the upcoming University Writing Awards Competition. We encourage submissions from across the disciplines, including business, social sciences, physical sciences, biological sciences, humanities, creative and performing arts, journalism, and professional programs. Nominations/submissions are welcome for the following categories:

  • Graduate Creative Writing: Fiction ($500 award)
  • Graduate Creative Writing: Nonfiction ($500 award)
  • Graduate Creative Writing: Poetry ($500 award)
  • Graduate Scholarly Writing: Argumentative or Expository ($500 award)
  • Undergraduate Creative Writing: Fiction ($325 award)
  • Undergraduate Creative Writing: Nonfiction ($325 award)
  • Undergraduate Creative Writing: Poetry ($325 award)
  • Undergraduate Scholarly Writing: Argumentative or Expository ($325 award)

A complete nomination form must accompany each submission. A PDF including both documents (the nomination form and the nominated work) must be sent to the Faculty Senate Office at FacultySenateAwards@unt.edu before 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 25, 2022. Specific guidelines are below:

  • The pieces submitted must have been written between January 1 and December 31, 2021.
  • Both the student and a faculty member must sign the nomination form (the faculty member does not need to be one of the student's instructors).
  • Students must have been enrolled full time or part time during at least one long semester of the 2021 calendar year.
  • English is the language of the competition. Occasional phrases in other languages are acceptable.
  • Students may submit more than one piece in more than one category. Each submission may be as short as a single page and as long as 20 pages (not counting the Name and Title cover page). No submissions longer than 20 pages will be accepted.
  • Each submission must be double-spaced, with 12-point Times New Roman font, 1-inch margins, a footer with the page number/s and title of the piece, and with the student's name and the title of each work on a separate Name and Title page (no identifying information should be on the other pages of the piece).
  • Students must own sole copyright of their work prior to submission. Students must not have contracted professionals to support the research, writing, and editing associated with the submission.
